Carly went back to being silent. It was apparently working for her because she wasn't angry at Orion anymore. She really had non reason to be in the first place, but somehow she always managed to be self centered and be angry when Orion did nothing wrong. She was surprised Orion hadn't been raising his voice and hadn't been obviously angry. He had every right to be pissed at Carly, yet for whatever reason he wasn't. Instead, he was sorry.
"Don't be sorry Orion. You have no reason to be," she spoke quietly. Loud enough for Orion to hear, although just barely. She hoped he knew how sorry she was. "Don't apologize for me being an idiot." she continued, thinking about all the times she had been an idiot. There were certainly plenty of times where she just didn't notice she was hurting him. She thought of them all in her head and thought how bad she was for Orion. In high school Orion had been there for her through every break up, but Carly had been the cause of most of his. Orion had brought her soup when she got sick, but she somehow didn't find the time to return the favor. "I honestly don't know how you can call me your best friend," she said before she knew she was saying it. Once she did, she knew she meant it. He was more than a best friend to her but she was practically nothing for him.
She shook her head again. She should have gone to him, not just assumed he had no time. He had always made time for her and she supposed he always would. Another place she had fallen short in their friendship. He had always dumped a girl friend when she said so, he had stopped what he was doing to hang out with her or comfort her, but had she done that? If she was doing something she finished it and then called him. If she was dating a guy and she could tell Orion didn't like it, she kept dating him. Orion never told her he didn't like her dating, but Carly could usually tell. She assumed that because Orion wasn't voicing his opinion, he didn't really care. She assumed a lot of things she shouldn't have. Overall she was just a bad friend. She didn't understand why Orion had stuck with her as long as he had.
She heard Orion's phone buzz and looked up from her coffee. She couldn't help but smile. That was an indirect answer to her question. He had rejected Melissa's call and chosen to keep talking to Carly no matter how much this conversation had been hurting him. He was trying to keep this friendship working, if it could even still be called a friendship. He was doing everything that Carly wasn't. He was the best friend Carly had and she didn't nearly deserve him.
"You should really talk to her. I'm sure she's worried. We both know I'm not going anywhere anytime soon," she said in a sort of whining tone, standing up and walking to get another coffee to leave Orion to call Melissa back while she thought about more things. She wasn't going anywhere. She meant that both literally right now and in her life. She was a life guard, she wasn't in college, and she was still living with her aunt. Her big dream and career ambition had failed and she was stuck in the tiny town that held to many heart breaks and rumors. And then literally because she wasn't going anywhere. This conversation was enough for her to realize how horrible she had been to Orion. It made her want to put in the effort to be a good best friend, even if it meant trying and pretending to like Melissa so he wouldn't be hurt anymore.
For the first time ever Charlotte was more than willing to compromise her own feelings if it meant Orion would be happy. She just hoped she hadn't already ruined things with everything she said. She waited at the counter for her drink, not sure if Orion was actually calling Melissa or if she had just told herself he would so she could get a break to think without him staring at her.
I don't deserve him... at all. she thought as she looked back at him and grabbed her second coffee.

The change of her attitude took him by surprise. Was she finally realizing the error of her ways? It was not as if she was the only person at fault here, no, because Orion had been a little bit wrong as well. In Orion's mind not as wrong as Carly was being but even so he had been in the wrong a little as well. He wasn't there for her when she came back... he should have just showed up at her doorstep and forced her to tell him what was going on. But, that had never been an Orion thing to do. Of course, it was the longest time they ever went without speaking and Orion felt bad for that bit. Usually one of them would contact each other if they went even just a day without communication. It had been an entire week without a single hello to each other! Which did make him feel bad but he had planned to talk to her as soon as he could with his 'flawless' plan that consumed his inner thoughts before he ran into her today. Of course, the plan was not as flawless as he wanted. However, at least their conversation was slowly starting to take a turn for the better.
"We both were a little bit in the wrong," he concluded, he wasn't going to be sitting there and letting her take full blame. He wasn't the type of person that let his ego get in the way of things. He had been hurt she wouldn't accept Melissa but he wasn't going to fault her anymore. He really hoped that she would at least try to be nice to her for Orion's sake but he should have known better than to try and suggest the two become friends. That was too much hoping, he knew how Carly could be stubborn and it was very hard for her to change her mind on things. Sometimes, Orion was surprised that Carly was still his best friend after he tried kissing her so long ago. He thought that would have been the end of their friendship, but he was thankful that was never the case.
He sighed ever so slightly, "Well, you've been my best friend since I was a little kid, Carly. You're not someone I want to lose in my life. I've told you that before. You've been the only friend in my entire life that has lasted through elementary, middle, and high school without backstabbing me. I don't want to lose you as soon as we become adults... not after everything we've been through," .he expressed to her honestly. He couldn't imagine his life without her now, and after everything they've been through... they couldn't just break up their friendship after so many years of outlasting the odds. Most people drifted apart after elementary and gained new friends each step of their life. Orion did not want this to happen with him and Carly because they were a part of each other’s lives far too long to just give up on their friendship over a silly fight about who he was dating.
"Were eventually going to have to accept the fact that were both getting older though. One day were going to find the perfect person to marry, and start a family with. Then, our time together will be far less, and you may move away. But, we will still be friends and still contact each other. I suppose that's just part of growing up..." he trailed off a little. This sent a small ping to his chest though because he didn't like thinking about this. He didn't like thinking about Carly getting married and moving away... it really killed him. But, he saw her leaving this town for good, before he ever saw himself leaving.
He wouldn't have contacted Melissa if it wasn't for Carly getting up to go get more coffee. However, he did take that as a quick queue to let Melissa know he was ok. He felt very bad that he was being such a crummy boyfriend right now. Most boyfriends, or well, good boyfriends, picked up the phone when their girlfriends called. And, here he was, ignoring her to spend time with his best friend...
He gave her a quick phone call letting her know he was with Carly, and again, his heart sunk a bit because he felt bad yet again. Melissa was way too cool about it, and told him she hoped everything went ok, and she was going to be with a friend today, so he could take his time with Carly. He couldn't believe how sucky he was being because Melissa was amazing and so understanding. He really did hit the jackpot with that girl. However, unfortunately, he just couldn't get over Carly... But, he thought in the back of his head he would eventually… he just had to.
When Carly arrived back, he gave her a small grin. "Well, welcome back."

"Are you sure you're only nineteen? You sounded like a thousand years old just then..." she asked, laughing a little. It felt good to laugh. Something about Orion always made her comfortable and happy, no matter what was going on he managed to bring a smile to her face. Another reason she had become so dependent on him over the years. She didn't have many girl friends because she was so dependent on Orion and she didn't need anyone else. Orion was everything she needed and the threat of losing him right now was horrible.
"I'm really sorry Orion. For everything I've done. You've been there for me and I just left and... god I've been such a horrible friend to you. I'm really glad you've stuck with me thought. I don't know who I would be without you," she said honestly. Maybe if she hadn't ever become friends with Orion or they had grown apart before junior high, she would have never gone to Nashville. Never got up her confidence, never found her passion for singing. Maybe she would have turned out different, less stubborn. Orion was the only person she really depended on, so maybe she would have been completely independent and a loner. She was completely content to have few friends, she wasn't someone who needed to be surrounded by people to feel loved. She hadn't been, anyway. Really the only person she cared about was Orion, she didn't care what anyone else thought of her. Which is why she generally didn't socialize with others.
She thought of the prospect of marriage and kids. At that point in her life it really seemed like something she didn't want or need. She wasn't in a stable place in her own life where she could support herself or get a worth while job. She didn't like kids most of the time, and so having kids of her own wasn't desirable at the moment. And even if she did want kids and find someone who she loved, she would always be thinking about Orion just because he has been the person she depends on. It would just be odd to suddenly change how their relationship was and her to move away. She couldn't think of that now. One week away from Orion had been torture, what would a lifetime away from him be?
No, she wasn't going anywhere. Not until she was ready. And she wasn't going to think about marriage or kids until she was ready, which was far in the future. Future... what does my future hold? she thought. It was a random thought considering the circumstances. But in the big picture, it was really something she needed to figure out. She hoped that she and Orion could come to some sort of understanding that Melissa was bad so that she could have her best friend back, or if they couldn't just find some way to split Orion's time. She really needed his help in figuring out what she's going to do. She had always consulted him on her decisions, on her academics, on everything. She hadn't always listened to him but she did let him know most of her decisions.
Her attention back in the present, she started humming as she looked around and tapped the side of her cup, not really sure what she was going to say. She had something in her mind but she lost it while she was thinking about marriage. That had been happening more and more frequently, her blonde moments. She was very forgetful since she came back from Nashville. She felt rather unintelligent, but that wasn't anything new. "Well. I'm not going to change my mind about her. But you already knew that, didn't you?" she said, stopping and looking at him. She really hoped that wouldn't anger him. It was just a statement of fact. She wasn't meaning it as an attack and there wasn't any anger in her voice. She was merely making conversation.
"But I won't call her.. you know. I won't be rude about my opinion anymore. I don't want another fight. This week has pretty much been the worst week of my life." she stated, taking a large gulp of her coffee. She figured he already knew she had been in hell the week before. Even he would be able to see past the makeup and see the bags under her eyes. She hadn't been sleeping well the past week, both because she hadn't talked to Orion and because she had been so stressed and upset over Nashville and her future. She would be really happy when she and Orion were back to a place where she could go to him with anything. She smiled at him and took another sip.

He didn't really want to own up to reality. If he could live in a fantasy world of never growing up he would do just that. However, eventually everyone had to grow up and face adult situations. This was paying your own bills, making choices for yourself, and dealing with the uphill battles of having to come to realization that things were going to change. They were no longer teenagers, which meant it wouldn't be as easy as it once was. When they were younger all they had to worry about was hanging out, and fixing negative situations. Now it was a completely new battle. Orion was faced with football and choices of what he wanted to do with his life; career wise and family wise. Did he see himself settling down with Melissa in the future, he wasn't sure. However, he did know he wanted a family someday... just not until after college. Then, Carly was faced with her job as a lifeguard and trying to bring in her own money, and her career as well.
Orion had felt terrible that her goals did not go the way she wanted. He had faith in her and he knew just how talented she was. He had never really realized how dependent she was on him until she mentioned it though. He supposed it had just always been a given for her that he was by her side. And, when he wasn't she didn't have nobody there by her side supporting her. Nevertheless, Orion would always support her no matter where he was, even if he wasn't there for her physically, he was always there for her emotionally. Even if they had broken up their friendship right there and then, he would still support her in her dreams and goals. He'd never wish for anything negative to happen to her no matter how angry or hurt she may make him. Orion just wasn't that kind of person and at the end of the day, no matter how much Carly may hurt him he'd still support her.
In all honesty, he'd always forgive her for anything in the long end. Like he mentioned nothing could really tear him away from a friendship since he was in elementary school. They really did outlast the odds with this friendship of theirs.
"Oh, Carly." he gave her a wide grin, "You're not a bad friend, you're just a stubborn friend. If you were a bad friend, you wouldn't be trying to look out for me, when it comes to who i'm dating. But, i'm also a big boy, and I don't need mamma Carly trying to protect me. I just need her to support me," the grin was still playing on his face, as he tried to lighten the mood, joking with her a bit. He knew she was just trying to have his best interest for him in her heart. Just the way she went about it was all wrong. It just doesn't work when someone dabs at the person you’re dating, and continues to call them a slut. Carly really hadn't been the nicest about telling Orion she disapproved of Melissa.
At the time when she first started talking negatively about Melissa, and couldn't hold her tongue Orion had not been certain how to react. However, the moment, she finally declared she would not call her names anymore; it brought a smile to his face. That was honestly all he could ask for. He knew he had been wrong in trying to change Carly's opinions on his girlfriend because Carly was stubborn. However, he didn't think it was too much to ask her when it came to just asking her to show a little respect. That was what had tripped up Orion before was all her negativity. But, he should have known better than to automatically assume she was doing it to be hurtful and get rid of him. He should have known it was Carly being Carly... but while she was away, something’s changed. However, he was ready to get back to the normal with her.
He really missed her.
"Thank you," he paused for a moment, then gave her a weak smile. "I'm sorry, it was a bad week for you," another small pause. "But, i've missed you so much, Carly. I think i've missed you more while you were here in town then I did when you were away. It killed me knowing you were here, I was here, and we weren't talking. It felt like I was really losing you. I think i'd go insane if that were to happen," he told her in all honesty, but gave a quick laugh to make it more of a joking matter, then a serious matter.
He was so over the serious conversation. He just wanted to joke with her like old times. He wanted his best friend moments back, not the serious conversation of...' are we still friends or not'
And, from the looks of it. It looked like Orion and Carly were still going to be in each other's lives. And, he couldn't be more happy with this fact.

Growing up was just part of life. It was a fact Carly should face sooner rather than later. She had lost friends over the years, but never Orion. He had been there always, despite the fact it was unlikely. They had outlasted the odds and Carly was happy to see them make it through this fight. Sure, they weren't in the clear yet, but they were at least laughing and smiling again rather than crying and yelling. It was certainly an improvement.
And as long as Charlotte could keep her mouth shut and get a cap on her temper, things should go well. But that was her problem. If she thought it, she usually said it. Look where that had gotten her. She couldn't go this one conversation without calling Melissa a slut. Mind over matter... she told herself. She had never been good at that. As a kid she would always run screaming from the room if she saw a spider because was so afraid of them. She had gotten better at that, of course, but she wasn't known for her ability to kill them. She hoped that Orion was a good enough cause for her to keep her mouth shut. But sometimes things just slipped out. She knew it was no use trying to change her mind or be likable around Melissa, but she was going to do her best not to snap again. She wouldn't be able to take another week without Orion.
Charlotte really didn't know where she would be without Orion. She couldn't stress to him enough how dependent she was on him. Her world practically surrounded Orion. Almost every memory she had had something to do with Orion whether he was actually in it or not. He had always been there and Carly didn't know what would happen or how she would function if this fight had ruined their friendship. She was more than relieved that they weren't fighting. She knew there were still hard feelings, at least there were for her, but not ones she would every purposefully act on.
This conversation hadn't exactly gone as she had planned. She didn't really know what her plan was to begin with, but she knew it didn't end up with him still dating Melissa. She supposed she didn't think of it as an option because it hadn't been before. In high school Orion would basically break up with the girl when Carly said so. She should have known that it wasn't high school anymore and Orion hadn't ever depended on Carly. But in her mind she worked it up to the point where he would be desperate to have her back the way she was desperate to have him back. That hadn't exactly been the vibe he was sending off. I've already lost part of him... she thought, looking down at her coffee again. She couldn't help but feel what she was thinking was true. She hadn't been there when it mattered and the person who had been there is now who he depends on. Melissa.
It broke Carly's heart and she could almost feel it breaking. For so long she and Orion had depended on each other and now Melissa was there driving a wedge between the once inseperable pair. "I don't think you'll ever truly lose me Orion," she said honestly, hoping it was true. She didn't want to lose him and she knew he didn't want to lose her. "I meant what I said," she said looking up at him and touching his hand. "I'm really not going anywhere."
She realized then that she was pulling the conversation back into the depressingly serious place that Orion had been trying to get out of. "Anyways," she said shaking herself and leaning back in her chair, pulling her hand from Orion's. "All this caffeine is probably not a good thing for me. I'll be freaking hyper in a few minutes!" she said, laughing and placing her half full coffee at the edge. It probably wasn't a good idea to have the second one. She guessed she had just done it so that Orion could call Melissa. Now when did I start caring about their relationship? Oh yeah, when I realized not caring was hurting Orion. she thought, thinking how now everything she should be focusing on was not hurting him. She was obviously a natural at hurting him, so she needed to focus on not hurting him. And if that meant caring about how him and Melissa were going, then so be it. She would act like she cared.
She loved Orion. And she wasn't about to let Melissa hurt him. So she was going to be there every step of the relationship so that Orion would know he could count on Carly. So that he would know he could tell her anything and talk to her just like he used to. Carly smiled. She definitely looked forward to being a part of Orion's life again. Like old times. Something she had been eager for since she came back from Nashville after a summer away. She just wasn't about to hang out with Melissa and be the best friend to the girlfriend. Not a chance.
"So. Let's catch up." she said, realizing they never really talked about their summers. It felt incredibly odd that she had to prompt it, but she understood why they hadn't really been in contact about their summers. Bad timing and all, but she was ready to talk now.
She felt like she finally had her best friend back, or most of him anyway.

Just the single touch of her hand on his sent his emotions running wild. He felt that sudden jolt inside his stomach like fluttering butterflies making their life inside the pit of his stomach. He was lucky that he had been so used to her touch now that he had a way of hiding what he felt for her. He was fortunate that he no longer would turn red in the face when she touched him, or hugged him. He remembered at one point he would always turn red back in middle school when he finally realized what love was, and realized he was in love with the girl sitting across from him. But, of course, he grew immune to her and her gentle touch after a while so he was able to compose himself. It was probably fortunate as well, that she had been rather clueless to him liking her. However, she always seemed to be the most clueless. He just had to hope that nobody else caught on to the fact he still wasn't over her, now that he had a girlfriend and all. Melissa and him had been steady for quite some time now, and if word got around that he was still into Carly, hell with Melissa would be right around the corner...
He gave her a small smile, "Well, I will gladly take your word for that," if he was being completely honest though, he knew he needed to keep his guard up. She may be saying she wasn't planning on leaving but that was never certain. He assumed if some talent scout randomly showed up in town and offered her a job elsewhere she would take it. If the unexpected happened and she could live her dreams in Hollywood, Nashville, or elsewhere she would take it. However, he was not about to let her think he was thinking this. If these events were to happen as much as he would love to hold her to her words, he wouldn't be selfish and instead would let her live out her dreams. He wanted to see her dreams come true. He wanted his best friend happy.
As soon as she brought her hand back to herself, he lost the warmth he felt that had recently taken over his body. His inner thoughts sighed as he took a sip of his coffee, attempting to not let any emotions convey what he was feeling inside. He hated himself for still getting the way he did when he was around Carly. He hated that Carly could send his feelings, and emotions into overdrive. He hated that Carly could make him feel a way that Melissa was not capable of. He hated that he didn't get the butterflies in his stomach, or the warm sensations of life when he was with Melissa. He hated that the only girl that was ever capable of doing these things to him was Charlotte Rae Breon.
He grinned, as a light laugh escaped his lips when she mentioned the caffeine would make her hyper. He really missed the days when they were younger… actually, scratch that it wasn’t just when they were little kids because even back in high school they would get caffeine highs. He remembered one time in their freshman year a police officer had stopped to question their sanity. Orion figured the poor older officer, assumed the young kids were drunk, and the older officer knew Orion's father. In addition, he had a slight notation that the officer did not want to deal with Mr. Galloway (his father being an ex-commander in chief and all), so the officer had been rather relieved when he found out that Orion and Carly were just naturally crazy and on a sugar buzz. Their sugar buzzes didn't usually get too bad but it was on Halloween night and after a lot of energy drinks and candy... all wildness broke loose... with a bit of a belly ache the next morning. Nevertheless, it had been well worth it.
"Dang! I'm going to have to grab another coffee soon, as well. I've got to keep up with you! Can't let a woman out drink me," he told her jokingly, another laugh escaping his lips, as he smiled at her.
When she mentioned they needed to catch up, he drained the last bit of his coffee and stood up. "We will! Right after I go get another cup of coffee and a cookie... and, you a cookie." he paused momentarily, "So, if you have any phone calls, go ahead and make them," he said grinning at her. "Because after that you're all mine!" he smirked at her before going up to the counter to order cookies and coffee.

Carly relaxed a little as they got back to joking and laughing. She knew it would take a lot more than this conversation for her to be normal again. Orion hadn't really done anything and Carly had gotten angry. What had he done, chosen a girl he really liked over his best friend? He did what any normal guy would do, chose his future over his past. But it still hurt Carly. And she knew that it would keep hurting her to see him with Melissa. She knew that as long as he was with her things wouldn't be the same between them. They would slowly part ways. As much as she knew she wasn't leaving Lockhart again, she couldn't be sure that Orion wouldn't.
She didn't know what Melissa had been talking to him about. From her few encounters with the girl she gathered that Melissa wasn't the type to live the rest of her life in a small town. And if it turned out she wasn't a slut and, god forbid, she and Orion got married, he would likely follow her anywhere. But hopefully when he got married it was to someone that Carly approved of. She didn't want to see him dating someone who was bad for him, but she couldn't live with herself if she let him marry someone like that.
Orion left to get some more coffee. Charlotte decided not to waste hers and so continues to sip it slowly. She could feel the caffeine kicking in and he hand began to shake. "Oh coffee is such a bad idea," she said as she took another sip. She just worried about what she would say on such a caffeine high. If she had been having trouble controlling herself normally, then she probably shouldn't have been drinking coffee.
Orion got back with his and she watched him. She could never read him as well as she read other people, but she used to be able to at least see if he was happy. She couldn't. She couldn't see if he was happy with where their relationship was, she couldn't even see if he knew it was still fragile. And she still had not idea about anything he felt for Melissa, or anything about their relationship. That was really the only thing she needed catching up on. She could assume the rest. And as much as she didn't want to talk about Melissa, she knew she had to if she was going to actually tolerate Melissa. The first thing she needed to know was something she was dreading the answer to.
"Do you love Melissa?" she asked. She had always gotten right to the point with everything. And this was something she wasn't going to stop just because she and Orion had gotten in a fight. She knew that he knew how she was, he knew better than anyone that she didn't sugar coat things. And she didn't inch her way around a subject. She got right to it or she didn't talk about it at all. She had always been the all or nothing type of person.
More than anything she wanted him to say no. If he said no, than she would feel fine with not liking her. She would see that he didn't love her and she wasn't completely going against him by disliking Melissa. But if he said yes... then it would kill her. The fact that he loved someone who seemed so bad and like she could so easily hurt him would make Carly want to cry. And if he did love her and she ended up being the slut Carly thought she was, then how badly would it hurt Orion? Carly just couldn't think of him loving Melissa and Melissa not loving him back. She didn't want to think about it. And then again, if he said yes she would feel like crap because she hated someone he loved. She didn't like that feeling. Either way, if he said yes she would probably be crushed.
She didn't let him see it though. She didn't want her emotions clouding his answer. She really just needed his honesty, not him trying not to hurt Carly. She just needed his honesty so that she could trust him again. She really wanted to trust him.

His nose was filled with the warm and gooey scent of chocolate chip cookies as soon as he reached the counter. That perked his taste buds immediately, because he knew that meant a warm batch was just coming out of the oven. The Coffee shop cookies were always a delight. When he was younger before he even realized he enjoyed coffee, he would come here with his grandfather as he drank coffee, and Orion snatched a few cookies, which defaulted in his own little sugar high. His grandfather however, always had the young Orion under control. There was something about his grandfather that Orion always grew to adore, it was probably because Orion was closer to his grandpa then he was to his own father. His mother's father grew up more like a father to him then his own dad. His grandpa had always taken him fishing, or to sporting events where as his dad always stuck to himself. His father was always way too much into his work and studies.
He fetched up another coffee, and two cookies, before making his way back to Carly, giving her a wide grin. He then handed her the other cookie, "There fresh! Just took them out! So, be careful, they might burn you!" he declared, a wide grin spread across his face as he took a bite out of his. His taste buds immediately went into a wild frenzy as it wrapped around the chocolate, gooey, goodness, delight!
"Yes!" his answer to loving Melissa was almost too quick to be believable. His face turned bright red as he shifted uncomfortably in his seat. He had hoped that the conversations on Melissa were far over between him and Carly. It seemed like what he hoped once again fell through. He should have known Carly would be wondering such a thing. After all, she didn't like his girlfriend and she was probably wondering why Orion was refusing to break up with her. However, the question remained... even to himself. Did he love Melissa?
He knew that was the right answer to be saying aloud. Maybe, not to Carly. He assumed she would automatically realize something was fishy with his quick answer, his bright red face, and his shifting uncomfortably. However, the people around him probably wouldn't have caught on any. Orion had a slight feeling the main reason behind the 'yes!' was because he feared people were still ease dropping. This is what made Orion shift uncomfortably, and now he was looking around the coffee shop, making sure nobody was still paying attention to them.
And, when he noted that people were done watching the 'Orion and Carly Show' he felt himself breathe a little easier again. However, a small frown etched its way onto his face, as he shook his head. "No," he paused, as this answer was more earnest, but he felt the need to defend it more. "I mean, she's amazing. She's beautiful and funny, and she's there for me when I need her..." another slight pause, "But, as for being in love with her at this moment... No, I'm not..." he shook his head. He wished he could say he was in love with Melissa, but he knew he wasn't, and he just... he wasn't going to be able to lie about it. “I suppose, it just takes time to be in love with someone,” he told her, giving a weak smile. This however was not fully true… for when it came to Carly it had been quick and sudden. He felt even as a young lad, he had been in love with her, but didn’t entirely realize it till he fully knew the term and idea of love.
He just had to hope that Melissa did not plan to say those three words to him anytime soon. He didn’t think he would be able to say them back. And, he feared that could be the end to their relationship. He hoped that within time he would be able to fully know, one hundred percent that he was in love with Melissa before the words were said. He was certain within time he would fall in love with her.
Then he shrugged his shoulders briefly before giving her a curious look. “What about you,” a small pause, “You know, did you meet anyone in Nashville?” he asked her, it was obvious that she was currently not dating anyone but that didn’t mean she hadn’t meant someone in Nashville. However, at the small question he felt his heart hit a small ping again. He almost wasn’t sure he wanted to hear the answer.
And again...
He hated himself.
Because he shouldn’t care either way if she found a person in Nashville or not. He was with Melissa.
He was happy.
He would keep telling himself this anyways.
